(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — He is perhaps the most mysterious artist in the world: Banksy. Now, his highly anticipated exhibit in Chicago has hit a snag.
It was billed as “the largest Banksy exhibit ever assembled,” and the exhibit was to open Aug. 7 at the Epiphany Center for the Arts in the West Loop, featuring more than 80 original works by the elusive, iconoclastic street artist, who is based in England.
On Wednesday, the Epiphany Center for the Arts said it could not finalize a number of details for a lease agreement with representatives of “The Art of Banksy.”
Epiphany Founder David Chase, in a prepared statement, said the venue had reached a “dead end,” even after canceling several events to make way for the Banksy retrospective.
“Like the elusive Banksy himself, the team behind The Art of Banksy is nowhere to be found,” Chase said.
Ticketholders are being told to contact banksyexhibit.com with questions about refunds.
A message posted on the traveling show’s website cited “irreconcilable differences” with the Epiphany Center for the Arts.
“We will announce our new venue shortly. All patrons will be notified of the change of venue once it is confirmed,” the statement said.
