(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — South Side restaurant serving up Chicago style barbecue rib tips and links is getting national attention.
“You know, normally the line is back, you know, wrapped around the building. Last week it was wrapped around this building twice.”
Lem's Bar-B-Q on 75th Street has already been the place to go for barbecue done right in the Greater Grand Crossing community for decades, but having now won the James Beard America’s Classic Award, dozens of regulars, along with new customers make up a consistent line outside.
Inside Lem's Bar-B-Q, orders are shouted over a smokey counter top, while second generation owner Carmen Lemons tends to the meat in the smoker.
“It’s the year of abundance, and we will receive."
Regular customers said that Lem’s rib tips with the secret family recipe sauce is the best thing on the menu.
Some of the regulars are trekking in from the suburbs.
“Ain’t nothing gonna beat it,” customer Michael Thompson said.
He shared what makes it worth the trip from Flossmoor.
“I’m a rib tip person. Yeah, I’m tips all the way, but I might just get a slab anyways.”
