(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A high school principal has resigned after being arrested during a police sting targeting lewd conduct in a state park.

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources says that nearly a week ago its officers were conducting an undercover operation at Kankakee State Park when they arrested 55-year old Rodger Schnitzler.

At the time, he was principal of Manteno High School. State authorities say police had received ongoing reports of people engaging in lewd activities on the property.

Schnitzler was charged with disorderly conduct and aggravated assault.

Now, the superintendent of Manteno High School says Schnitzler has resigned from his principal’s job and is retiring.
