CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The state of Illinois is echoing the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s recommendations on masks but that isn’t stopping Gov. J.B. Pritzker from attending Lollapalooza this weekend.

The Illinois Department of Public Health has frequently followed the CDC's position on COVID-19 matters and Pritzker said in an unrelated bill signing, the agency's guidance will weigh heavily in his decisions about masks.

But the 56-year-old is keeping his weekend plans.

“I plan to go to Lollapalooza but I also know I'm going to watch every single day, what it looks like in terms of cases rising. And make decisions — smart decisions —  for myself, for my family, for our friends,” Pritzker said.

The governor encouraged people, vaccinated or not, to wear masks in crowded situations and said he may wear one if he's not able to get enough space at the festival in Grant Park.

The festival begins Thursday and runs through Sunday. An estimated 100,000 people are expected to attend each of the four days.
