SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Governor J.B. Pritzker and his staff are headed to the United Kingdom Tuesday to take part in the global summit on climate in Scotland.
Pritzker believes one reason he was invited to Scotland is because of Illinois’ "terrific nation-leading climate law", a new clean-energy initiative that puts the state on a path towards 100 percent clean energy by 2050.
“Illinois is leading the Midwest on climate action and building a green energy economy and I am eager to tout our success abroad,” Pritzker said in a statement.
He also mentioned the Reimagining Electric Vehicles law, which includes the goal of having one million electric vehicles on Illinois roads in the next eight years.
Starting next July, people who buy electric vehicles in Illinois will be eligible for a $4,000 rebate from the state plus rebates of up to 80 percent of the cost of installing a charging station.
The governor and his team will spend two days meeting with business leaders to discuss Illinois economic development opportunities and investment opportunities in an emerging eco-friendly economy, according to the Associated Press.
"I’m going there ‘cause I want to make sure that the manufacturers, suppliers as well, of electric vehicles know that Illinois is the place that they ought to invest in when they come to the United States to plant their flag somewhere," Prtizker said.
