(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — In the wake of the contentious Oval Office meeting between President Donald Trump and Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, thousands rallied in Chicago on Sunday in support of Ukraine.

“History has its eyes on you.” “Will my suit stop Russia?” Those are some of the signs that supporters of Ukraine held up at a rally at Water Tower Place on North Michigan Avenue.

“This is a reaction not just to what happened in the Oval Office. It is a reaction by the people of this country to the notion that we are going to abandon Ukraine and embrace Vladimir Putin. That is never going to happen,” Illinois Senator Dick Durbin (D) said.

“I will tell you this. If Pance and Trump decide to stand with Putin, I'm not standing with them. Are you?”

The crowd shouted back “no”.

“We are going to stand for the values that made America great,” Durbin said.

“This is what solidarity, this is what resistance for democracy looks like right now,” Congresswoman Delia Ramirez (IL-D 3) said.

Congressman Mike Quigley was also at the demonstration.

“Apparently I'm not wearing a suit to the White House ever again,” the democrat said.

Demonstrators then carried an enormous Ukrainian flag and marched down Michigan Avenue.
