CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Survivors, mourners, health care providers, councilors and policy makers were among the hundreds who gathered at Federal Plaza Monday afternoon for a rally and resource fair aimed at ending overdose deaths.

Keith Davis used heroine for 19 years now works with the West Side taskforce handing out naloxone.

He said society must accept that people will use drugs, and do what it can to keep people alive.

"The healthy thing is to...A not be by yourself, because isolation does breed addiction. B-use with a partner and have clean needles."

Many of those gathered are pushing for the passage of state legislation that would allow for overdose prevention sites.

"I'm not trying to save everybody-just one person will do for me," said Davis.
