(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Rideshare drivers continued their demands for more safety protections by holding a prayer vigil outside Chicago City Hall on Thursday.
Their candlelight prayer vigil was aimed at bringing attention to the dangers faced by rideshare drivers.
Lori Simmons, an organizer with the Chicago Gig Alliance, said she and other driver advocates have been pushing a measure called the Rideshare Living Wage and Safety Ordinance for almost two years.
Among other protections, it would obligate rideshare companies like Uber and Lyft to require potential riders to verify their identity before booking a ride.
Drivers told WBBM Newsradio that anonymity among app users seems to be the greatest enabler of violent crime against them.
