WBBM Newsradio on Friday Dec. 3 is hosting the Good Neighbor Radiothon from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. to benefit the Salvation Army. Here is a look at one of the organization's programs and how it helps those in need.

(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — One of the Salvation Army's programs helps people make better choices about what to put on their plate and to live healthier lives.

Dynna Edwards is case manager for the Pathway of Hope program at the Red Shield Center on West 69th Street.

She started exercising, eating better and getting her diabetes under control, thanks to the center’s Fresh Desert Healthy Urban Diet Initiative.

She’s using her knowledge to help others.

“We have personal trainers who are involved in your journey — just about any type of exercise course that you would like to take,” Edwards said.

Sometimes eating more healthy is more expensive, she said. So, a tutorial about how to shop and where to shop can help.

“If you’re educated on how to shop, you’re more likely to eat a healthier meal,” Edwards said.
