(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — An employee of Woodland School District 50 has been arrested and charged with selling more than $100,000 in school electronic equipment on eBay, police in north suburban Gurnee said.
Facing five felony charges, including theft, is 53-year-old David May of Lindenhurst, an employee of the technology department.
Police say May sold more than $105,000 in electronic equipment that belonged to the school district on eBay. The items included computers and cameras.
Detectives say the school district got several calls from people across the country who had bought the equipment.
“The devices were locked and displayed a message indicating the device belonged to Woodland School District 50,” police said in a news release. “The school district compared serial numbers from the eBay purchases with their inventory and confirmed the equipment belonged to the school district.
Gurnee police say they’ve been investigating since last November.
May is free on $5,000 bond, authorities said.
