Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker indicated Friday it’s a little premature to start talking about a replacement for U.S. Sen. Tammy Duckworth if she were to take a job in President-elect Joe Biden’s administration.

The Democratic junior senator from Illinois reportedly is on Biden’s short list for the Department of Veterans Affairs. She had previously been under consideration for vice president, but the nod ultimately went to Sen. Kamala Harris, D-California.

Duckworth, who was a U.S. Army helicopter pilot, was wounded in Iraq in 2004 and lost her legs.

“I will say Tammy Duckworth is a terrific person, a real American hero, and someone who’s been highly effective in her job as U.S. senator,” Pritzker said at an appearance Friday. “I would hate to lose her as a U.S. senator, but gaining her on the national level would be a benefit to the entire country.”

Biden has been declared the winner of the 2020 presidential election, but incumbent Donald Trump has yet to concede the race. Behind the scenes, the Democrat and his advisers are said to be putting a future Cabinet together.
