(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — When the Chicago Auto Show opens to the public this weekend, there will be something other than the latest cars and trucks on display.
Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart is sponsoring "carjacking" booth.
Dart said carjacking has become a big problem in the Chicago area, and he wants to answer questions from people about what they can do to reduce their risk and help solve the problem.
“What better place to do that than at the car show, where you’re going to have over 100,000 people coming by? The vast majority are looking to purchase cars. So, it’s the perfect place to take this message to folks,” Dart said Thursday at McCormick Place.
Dart advises people to purchase vehicles with tracking technology. This can help police find carjacked vehicles more quickly, as well as get them off the road so that they cannot be used in other crimes.
The Chicago Auto Show runs through Feb. 21.
