CARBONDALE, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Just days after arriving to Southern Illinois University’s campus, a Chicago student is dead following an early shooting yesterday.
SIU police said Keeshanna Jackson and three others were struck by gunfire at an off campus party in the 500 block of West Cherry Street.
The freshman was pronounced dead at the scene while the other three victims drove themselves to area hospitals and are expected to survive.
Family and friends said Jackson had recently enrolled and had hopes of expanding her professional nail business.
In a statement, SIU Chancellor Austin Lane said, in part, "We are heartbroken to lose a member of the Saluki family and extend our deepest condolences to her family and friends."
