(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Skokie is hosting a public meeting to discuss possible new electoral maps as it moves toward greater geographic diversity in electing local leaders.

Last week, the village released drafts of three options created by a mapping consultant following the first public hearing.

This comes after voters approved a binding referendum last year pushed by the Skokie Alliance for Electoral Reform that will abolish the village’s method of electing only at-large leaders. In the future, there will four districts with its own trustee, plus at-large trustees who represent the broader community.

Chair Carrie Bradean said the alliance doesn’t have an opinion on the maps so far but is waiting to see how they’ll incorporate school districts and precincts.

A third public hearing is scheduled for Oct. 10, with the proposed maps labeled Orchard, Prairie and Marsh to be presented to the village board in November.
