CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Some Catholic schools in the Chicago area could be making the switch to remote learning.
The Chicago Archdiocese told WBBM that with cases of COVID-19 spiking across Illinois, Catholic schools can voluntarily transition to remote learning after the Thanksgiving break.
“We have had fewer than 10 possible cases of secondary spread of the COVID-19 virus in our schools, and we remain extremely confident in our health and safety protocols,” Chicago Archdiocese wrote in a statement to WBBM.
Eighty percent of the its schools favored continuing in-person learning while another 20 percent were open to alternate plans, including remote learning.
The Archdiocese said, however, it's too soon to say which schools will be switching to remote learning.
“We have always said that we will respond to the continued evolution of the pandemic and continue working with local health departments to keep the safety and wellbeing of our students and employees our top priority,” the Chicago Archdiocese said.
Catholic schools in Chicago reopened in September.
