(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The Chicago Board of Elections says it will be years before all polling places in the city comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act.

All city polling places should have been ADA-compliant years ag, but board spokesman Max Bever says it just hasn’t been doable. The main thing elections officials plan for the February city elections is to let people know which polling places have obstacles of some kind.

“We’ll be able to mark which polling places don’t have steps, which ones are usable for people with disabilities and which ones have a step or are completely inaccessible,” he said.

Of the hundreds of polling places in this past election, Bever said 40 of them had stairs and were inaccessible to the disabled.
