(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – An Indiana State Police official is offering some safety tips to the hordes of motorists who are expected to descend on Indiana Monday for the eclipse.
Much of the Hoosier State is in the path of totality, or the swath that will be plunged into darkness when the moon covers the sun.
Sgt. Glen Fifield was making the rounds of Chicago media Friday to prepare motorists for the potential logjams of traffic and to offer advice on mitigating the pain.
He said it would be best if people heading into Indiana to stagger their travel times to and from the natural event.
“Speaking of staggering, when this eclipse event is over in the afternoon on Monday, please do not be in any hurry the event that you’re at. Stick around, stay at your event, enjoy the event and wait several hours because we’re anticipating a mass exodus at once,” Fifield said.
I-65 is among the interstates that is expected to be clogged with traffic.
Do not pull over on the side of the road to view the eclipse, Fifield said.
