(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Baristas at two Starbucks locations in Chicago were striking Wednesday and Thursday during the coffee giant’s busy Red Cup Day promotion.

Rachel Simandl was back striking outside the store at Ridge and Clark with a smaller crowd than last year’s, but making the same argument they don’t have enough staff on the big promotional day when they give out reusable holiday cups.

This store didn’t open Wednesday -- a move Alison Guerrin sees as a victory.

Baristas at eight other locations across Illinois are expected to join them on the picket line Thursday.

Starbucks says store leaders can adjust staffing during promotions and they’re working to give employees more stability and flexibility with their schedules. As for contract negotiations, both sides accuse the other of dragging their feet.
