CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The side effects some people are feeling from COVID-19 vaccines are all over the map, but there may be ways to mitigate them.
For some people, side effects come with the first dose; for others, it’s the second shot that may bring fever, chills, a sore arm or other symptoms. For other people there may be nothing.
“There does not appear to be a pattern,” Chicago endocrinologist Dr. Romy Block said Tuesday.
Side effects are a sign the immune system is working as it should and responding to the vaccine. Younger people may have the strongest reactions because they typically have the best immune systems, Block said.
Vitamin D helps offset side effects, she said. She also advises people to drink lot of water and get rest. Any symptoms usually subside within 24 to 48 hours.
