(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Some Walgreens pharmacists are walking off the job this week-protesting harsh working conditions.

Garth Reynolds is the Executive Director of the Illinois Pharmacist Association and a practicing pharmacists. He said there are concerns about not having enough staff to adequately meet the needs of their patients whether its refilling prescriptions, giving vaccinations or having the time to educate patients.

"Instead, we treat patients more like they're fast food and we push them through drive-throughs and push them through lines and we hope that they don't have questions and we should be building a system where that adequately allows us to set and talk and work with our patients to improve their care."

In a statement, Walgreens Boots Alliance acknowledged these are very challenging times and said all 9,000 locations continue to serve patients and customers.

Reynolds said he has not heard that Illinois is experiencing any major walkouts or disruptions.
