It will be a St. Patrick’s Day weekend like we haven’t seen in three years in Chicago.

The downtown parade, the Southside Irish Parade, The Archer Avenue Parade and the Northwest Side Irish Parade are all planned for the weekend.

On Saturday, March 12, the Plumber’s Union Local 130 continues the tradition of dyeing the Chicago River green, which will begin at 10 a.m. Later in the day, the downtown parade will start just after noon on Columbus Drive in Grant Park. This year's parade Queen is Chicago Police Department Officer Kelly Layden. Finally, the Archer Avenue Parade will start at noon at 53rd Street and South Oak Park Avenue.

The city said the Chicago Riverwalk will be closed during the dyeing, and the bridges will be closed to spectators.

The best spot to view the dyeing of the river is along Upper Wacker Drive.

On Sunday, March 13, the South Side Parade will begin at noon at 103rd and Western, marching south to 115th and Western Avenue. The Northwest Highway Parade in the Norwood Park neighborhood will also begin at noon.

There will be street closures and difficulty parking for all these events. Public transportation is advised.
