State disrupts alleged scheme to cash in stolen scratch-off lottery tickets

(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – Two people have been charged in a stolen Illinois lottery scratch-off scheme.

An Illinois Lottery employee is accused of stealing entire books of scratch-off tickets and then redeeming the winning tickets for cash, while another person also faces charges for allegedly redeeming additional stolen tickets.

The charges were announced this week by the Illinois Attorney General’s Office.

The Lottery employee – 57-year-old Dean Derrick of Springfield -- has been charged with a number of felonies in this case, including theft of government property and wire fraud.

His alleged accomplice -- Frazier Mack, 24, of Springfield -- has been charged with two felony counts government property theft.

Both men were arrested, with their bond set at $15,000 each.

Their next court date is on March 30.
