HIGHLAND PARK, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A stationery store in Highland Park is permanently closing Saturday at 5 p.m. after serving customers for 47 years.
Sheryl Oberman has helped families celebrate births, bar mitzvahs, weddings and even cotillions with invitations and announcements from the Stationery Station.
Oberman reflected on her career with gratitude for customers who were often generations of the same families. She said she was able to stay in business for decades, because she was "helping everybody through their various stages of their lives and their occasions."
The college English major always made sure that proper grammar was used in written announcements and invitations.
"There are people who sometimes get their feathers ruffled, because they think we were wrong, but then we proved to them we were right," she explained.

Many customers came into the store in Port Clinton Square Friday afternoon to buy wrapping paper, cards and stationery.
A former employee named Ellen gave Oberman a warm hug. She talked about the good times they had during 25 years of working at the store.
"It's like a new chapter and sadness, but happiness and everything all good. Lots of good events took place here."
Oberman said she’s been selling off her supplies and plans to donate some of what’s left. In a fitting way to spend her retirement, the 77-year-old is thinking about writing a book.
"It's good to go out when you're feeling good," she added.
