(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – Police in north suburban Antioch are investigating after a handgun was found Tuesday morning in a student’s vehicle at Antioch Community High School.

The firearm was found during a regularly scheduled search of vehicles using a canine, officials said in a news release.

The student presumed to have brought the weapon was taken into custody. The student is a 21-year-old part-time student who participates in an alternative schooling program, police said.

There’s “no reason to believe” students or staff were in danger, authorities said.
