(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Students at a Naperville college are banding together and calling for serious consequences after a racist incident on campus earlier this month.
The North Central College student at the center of the incident, Angel Tovar, has taken to social media to discuss her Feb. 6 discovery of a note on her floor with a racial slur.
Tovar said instances of racism on the Naperville campus are nothing new but school leaders have failed to respond accordingly.
“North Central College needs to take action,” Tovar said. “They need cameras in the residence halls, immediately, and they need to implement a no-tolerance policy when it comes to these instances, filled with hate, on campus.”
Ahead of the college’s Day of Giving on Thursday, Tovar and others are urging alumni not to donate until the administration does a better job of responding.
A letter from Interim North Central President Donna Carroll said the latest incident is “intolerable.” Naperville Police are assisting.
