(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Chicago's 24th Police District is spreading the word about recent online messaging that promotes violence and announces this Saturday as a national "Day of Hate."
Officers in a special unit of that district are advising residents to pay attention to their surroundings. The district includes West Ridge and Rogers Park -- two neighborhoods with the city’s largest concentration of Jewish residents, businesses and institutions.
Police say extremist groups have encouraged like-minded individuals to distribute hate messages and vandalize property with graffiti, CWB Chicago reports.
“The Chicago Police Department urges all community members to keep situationally aware and pay attention to your surroundings while out in the neighborhood, not just on Shabbos, but during the week as well,” the alert said.
