(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — While the parade at this September's Buffalo Grove Days festival has been canceled, village leaders have found other ways for the community to gather and celebrate the Labor Day weekend.
Buffalo Grove spokesperson Molly Gillespie said it didn't feel right to have a parade so soon after the Highland Park Fourth of July parade shooting.
Instead, the Sept. 4 parade will be replaced with several events, including a community walk that will bring people to the park where the festival is taking place. Also being organized is a community blood drive and a pancake breakfast to raise money for victims of the Highland Park shooting.
The Buffalo Grove Days parade is expected to return next year, Gillespie said.
