(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Evanston police are urging drivers to watch out for emails from scammers trying to trick them into paying fines generated by traffic-enforcement cameras.

The north suburb has no traffic-enforcement cameras.

Evanston Police Cmdr. Ryan Glew said the emails look very convincing and demand nearly $150 in fines and court costs.

He said the scammers presumably are also trying to collect credit card numbers and personal information that can allow them to steal even more.

If you get one of the emails, Glew said, contact Evanston police and don’t respond to the email or click on any of the links.
