(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – Cook County prosecutors have filed murder charges in this week’s shooting death of a Chicago police officer in Gage Park.

Police on Thursday said 18-year-old Steven Montano faces a first-degree murder charge and several offenses following a shootout Wednesday that killed 32-year-old Officer Andres Vasquez-Lasso near 52nd and Spaulding.

Authorities have said the shooting unfolded Wednesday afternoon as police responded to a domestic-related call.

Montano also faces charges of aggravated discharge of a firearm near a school; unlawful use of a weapon and assault.

He reportedly is still in the hospital, and there was no word on when Montano might make his first appearance in court.
