Things to do in Chicago this weekend: May 13-15

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- It seems as though summer has officially begun in Chicagoland and there are so many activities to enjoy this weekend along with the lovely weather.

Take your taste buds on a trip around the world at WhiskyFest Friday evening.
Hosted at Hyatt Regency Chicago, the event is the leading whisky festival in North America. Sample spirits from Tennessee, Japan, Canada and Scotland while learning about the industry firsthand from the experts.

Celebrate the sunny days ahead at the Rosemont Spring Fun Fest. The free family event is hosted at Rosemont’s Parkway Bank Park Saturday afternoon and includes a fun-filled day of outdoor activities including balloon sculpting, bounce houses and a petting zoo.

Dance your way into the weekend at the Athenaeum Theater for the debut of A&A Ballet’s internationally acclaimed performance of “Carnival of the Animals”.

Or head down the rabbit hole at the McAninch Arts Center in Glen Ellyn for Salt Creek Ballet’s take on Alice in Wonderland. Each ticket includes access to a kids’ Mad Hatter Tea Party between performances.

More than 75 authors, artists and playwrights come together for the American Writers Festival this weekend. Hosted at the Chicago Cultural Center and American Writers Museum, the free event coincides with the museum’s fifth anniversary.

All aboard for the Pullman Railroad Days! The two-day South Side event lets you immerse yourself in locomotive history by getting up close and personal with four historic Pullman cars and gives you a chance to explore the new “Railroaders” exhibit.

The Downer’s Grove Park District is going big for its 75th anniversary celebration. The Big Bash takes place at McCollum Park Saturday afternoon with free activities, live music and giveaways. Visitors can also race on a 90-foot obstacle course!

And the Chicago Dogs take on the Gary SouthShore Railcats at Impact Field in Rosemont. The Family Sunday home game offers $3 bottomless popcorn and pre-game autographs.
