(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Three women have now filed separate lawsuits against a former suburban high school teacher and coach, who they accused of grooming and sexual misconduct.
These former students attended either Elmwood Park High School or Morton East High School in Cicero. Their lawsuits, filed in Cook County, date back to 2002.
One of the women alleged that the teacher had a yearslong sexual relationship with her on school property and said it began when she was 16 years old.
Her lawsuit alleges that school administrators and teachers ignored opportunities to provide protection. She claimed that another teacher — who was friends with the wife of the accused — knew about the inappropriate sexual relationship, publicly scolded the teen on one occasion at school and called her a “homewrecker”.
State law requires school staff to report immediately when “they have reasonable cause to believe that a child known to them in their professional or official capacities” may have been abused.
