CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- There has been lots of interest this year in looking at outdoor Christmas house decorations in southwest suburban Tinley Park, but the village is asking people to be more considerate of others.

Tinley Park Assistant Village Manager Pat Carr said the village has some of the best outdoor residential Christmas decorations and welcomes people to visit, but he said people need to be more respectful of the community.

Carr said foot and car traffic is straining residents' patience and ability to handle it.

"People are littering. They’re trampling people’s grass. They’re cutting across people’s grass. There’s public urination," he said.

Carr said some people have left used masks and dirty diapers on people's property, too.

The main problem is found in the community from 171st to 175th Streets between 84th and 88th Avenues.

"On a given night, we’re getting thousands of cars coming through a residential neighborhood," he said.

Carr said 10 to 12 emergency management officers have been used to control traffic, along with barricades and lights. In rare instances, police are called when motorists become rude to people directing traffic.

Carr said the village has received numerous complaints from residents. He said changes in village ordinances may be needed to address the situation before next Christmas.

The village posted on Twitter Tuesday asking for more courtesy. The tweet reads: "The village is requesting that people visiting outdoor residential Christmas displays to PLEASE respect the neighbors. The village continues to receive numerous calls of visitors littering, public urination, rude behavior, and trespassing on residential property. This is unacceptable and not spreading Christmas cheer. Please limit your visits prior to 8 p.m. and respect the neighborhood properties. We apologize to the residents that have experienced this extreme inconvenience. The Village is reviewing ordinances and making changes to protect residents in the future."
