(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Using a smart device to call numbers can be dialing for danger.
Asking Siri about the weather, Alexa to play music, or a Google Assistant to turn on appliances are popular ways people use smart devices every day.
But if you're asking your virtual assistant for phone numbers or to dial a business, proceed with caution. That's because fraudsters create fake ads and websites using their phone numbers hoping that artificial intelligence takes the bait.
Here are some tips to avoid scams:
-To be safe, make sure you only use numbers from official websites or searches you can verify.
-Do a reverse number look up.
-If you're asked for personal or financial information, hang up, and confirm that everything is legit.
