CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch for all of northern Illinois, which will remain in effect until 8 p.m. Thursday.
Officials with the weather service said wind gusts could reach up to 75 mph, and scattered hail up to two inches could be possible.
The alert included all of the collar counties around Chicago, as well as parts of southern Wisconsin. The storm could impact areas as far as the eastern counties of Iowa.
In terms of potential exposure, the National Weather Service said the storm could affect over 14 million people, hit over 4,500 schools and 250 hospitals.
