(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The trial of the man charged with the 2017 murders of two girls in Delphi, Indiana has been moved to October of next year.
Things went sideways with the case following a defense motion outlining alleged cult involvement in the murders of Abby Williams and Libby German that a prosecutor called a “fanciful defense for social media to devour.”
There were allegations of misconduct on the part of investigators that led to charges against Richard Allen and the withholding of evidence.
Then there was a leak of evidence that ended up on social media, allegedly by a former employee of a defense attorney who later took his own life.
The judge, Fran Gull, then said in court that the court-appointed attorneys were withdrawing. That was news to them. They sought to have the judge removed.
New defense lawyers have been appointed, and they’re starting from scratch. They asked for a received a continuance until next October.
The former lawyers asked for an Indiana Supreme Court review of how the judge has handled the case.
