Two Chicagoans arrested for mail and identity theft

(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Two Chicago residents have been arrested and face multiple felony charges for allegedly stealing mail and identities, according to the United State Postal Inspection Service.

The first case, involving Cloteal Davis, 69 dates back to 2019. She allegedly stole and cashed checks from an elderly woman’s mail. She was previously arrested, but failed to show up in court.

 Davis became a fugitive. Postal Inspectors determined her whereabouts and she was arrested again. Davis faces multiple felony counts of forgery and aggravated identity theft.

The second case, involving Gustavo Balleza, 36 is more recent.

The Postal Inspection Service said he was identified as a suspect in more than 15 burglaries and mail thefts in the Lincoln Park neighborhood over the past month.

Its alleged that he was observed breaking into mail boxes on the 2300 block of North Clark Street when he was arrested and was found to be in possession of stolen mail, legitimate and fake ID’s and 65 bank cards.

Balleza is charged with felony aggravated identity theft and felony unlawful possession of credit/debit cards.
