(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Two South American migrants have been arrested and charged with shoplifting from a suburban department store.
Abel Barrios-Estava, 20, and Rafael Mata-Torres, 25, are accused of stealing $1,700 worth of merchandise from the Macy’s in Oak Brook on Monday. Barrios-Estava allegedly stole six items and led store security on a foot chase across 22nd Street, where he was arrested.
Mata-Torres is charged with stealing 13 pieces of clothing and was arrested in the store.
The DuPage County state’s attorney and the Oak Brook police chief said the two suspects are from Venezuela and have been living in Chicago. Both men have been outfitted with electronic monitors and are due back in court next month.
