(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Workers at two north side Starbucks are voting on union representation Wednesday.

The workers at locations on Ridge and Bryn Mawr Avenues would be the first and second to unionize in the city. Alderman Andre Vasquez calls this “a historic moment.”

“What these employees have been able to achieve furthers Chicago’s reputation as a union town, and I hope it inspires others to do the same," he said.

Other Starbucks workers have filed with the National Labor Relations Board ahead of voting.

One employee of a Logan Square store said, "Happy workers make better coffee."

Employees at another location in Lagrange, rejected union representation.

The company has said allegations that it retaliates against those trying to organize are “categorically false,” but it does it take an aggressive stance against organizing efforts.
