CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Both Rush University Medical Center and Northwestern Memorial Hospital were included on U.S. News & World Report's "Best Hospitals Honor Roll" for 2022–2023.

The list ranked the top 20 hospitals based, in part, on patient outcomes in 15 areas of specialty care.

Rush University medical center came in at 20th, and Northwestern Memorial Hospital ranked ninth.

“It's really a reflection of our patients-first mission,” said Dr. James Adams, Chief Medical Officer for Northwestern Medicine.  “All of our caregivers are focused entirely on the patients, so it's nice acknowledgement for the people who are working so hard."

Adams said they are particularly proud of their top-10 ranking, given it factored in not only how patients fared after treatment, but also the quality of their experience at the hospital.

“We really look to be doing the very best for patients and constantly just look to get better,” Adams said.

Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota took the top ranking.

Other midwestern hospitals that made the top-20 included: Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, which ranked 11th; and University of Michigan Health in Ann Arbor, Mich., which ranked 17th.
