CICERO, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Truck drivers for a Chicago-area liquor and beverage distributor have gone on strike.

Members of Teamsters Union Local 710 accuse the owners of Breakthru Beverage in Cicero of failing to address work safety issues, increasing load sizes, preventing workers from using earned personal time off, and offering inadequate retirement benefits.

A representative for Breakthru Beverage said management is disappointed that drivers rejected a tentative deal that met several union demands, but the company remains hopeful a resolution will be reached soon.

The Breakthru representative said the company has contingency plans in place, and the strike is not affecting its operations.
