CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Trustees for the University of Illinois System approved the purchase of a health clinic on Chicago’s Southwest Side last week during its vote on the budget.
The vote was part of Thursday’s meeting on the U of I system’s $7.1 billion budget but the board said the $5 million purchase from Mercy Hospital is covered by the state’s Healthcare and Family Service’s Department.
The three-story building at 55th Street and Pulaski Avenue will undergo renovations and become the UI Health Gage Park Clinic and will serve the largely Hispanic and underserved neighborhoods nearby.
UI Health Physicians Group will offer specialty care, mental health services and a women’s wellness center at the site as part of the T.A.R.G.E.T. Health Collaborative.
