Jury awards $6M to family of Oak Forest woman who died from opioid abuse

OAK FOREST, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) --The family of an Oak Forest woman who died of opioid abuse has won a $6 million dollar jury verdict against her doctor.

Ebeilda Rameriz, 41 died as a result of opioid addiction while under the care of Dr. Holly Carobene, a pain management physician.

Carobene of south suburban Harvey cared for Rameriz for four years, according to Patrick F. Bradley and Nicholas T. Motherway, attorneys representing Rameriz's family. The verdict was against her company, Comprehensive Pain Care as well.

“The defendant allowed this mom to become addicted and she died after abusing prescribed opioids,” Patrick Bradley said following the verdict. “It is very sad, but the jury realized that her death was avoidable, and she should be here today enjoying life.”
