CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A U.S. Postal Service mail carrier was robbed at gunpoint in Chicago’s Chatham neighborhood early Friday evening, Chicago police said.
CPD said a 37-year-old female mail carrier was robbed in the 7700 block of St. Lawrence Avenue.
Three robbers approached the carrier, took out guns and demanded her belongings, officials said. The letter carrier was not injured, according to the U.S. Postal Inspection Service.
Although the robbers took the woman’s personal property, officials said it did not appear that they took her special postal keys, which robbers sometimes demand in order to open other mailboxes.
No one is in custody.
In August, local mail carriers rallied at their union headquarters on the South Side, where they demanded more action be taken to ensure their safety on the job.
