CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A change near the top of the Cook County State's Attorney's office.

Risa Lanier, a 20-year veteran of the State's Attorney's Office, has been named First Assistant State's Attorney.
 ‘
Lanier has prosecuted several high-profile cases including the case against the man who was convicted of killing Chicago Police Cmdr. Paul Bauer in the Loop three years ago.

She will be responsible for advising Cook County State's Attorney Kim Foxx and supervising top staff positions in the office.

Lanier replaced Jennifer Coleman, who resigned in May after just five months on the job amid the fallout of the police shooting of 13-year-old Adam Toledo.

Coleman stepped down after an internal investigation found that she failed to review a statement read in court by a fellow prosecutor in the bond hearing for Ruben Roman, who was seen on surveillance video firing the shots that drew police to the area in the first place.

The bond proffer did not say that Toledo appeared to throw down a weapon in the seconds before he was shot by a Chicago police officer.
