(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Bodycam footage released Thursday from Oak Park police shows an encounter that left a detective dead the day after Thanksgiving.
Detective Allan Reddins can be seen approaching a man who was at the center of reports of an armed suspect near a bank the morning of Nov. 29.
“Don’t reach, bro. Don’t reach. Keep your hands up,” Reddins can be heard saying.
Seconds later, shots ring out.
Reddins was shot in his side and was taken to a local hospital, where he died from his injuries. Officials said Reddins' death was the department's first line-of-duty death since 1938.
