CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Wal-Mart is laying off and transferring hundreds of workers in Chicago.
Wal-Mart listed layoffs of more than 7,000 employees as a result of closing four Chicago stores.
However, Crain's Business reports that Wal-Mart spokesman Joe Huber said more than half of those employees have been transferred to other stores while some are waiting to decide their futures as the company is paying their wages until August 11.
Wal-Mart cited financial performance in its decision to close the four stores in Chatham, Kenwood, Lakeview and Little Village.
