CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- City and state leaders gather on Chicago's West Side to announce the expansion of Malcolm X College's satellite campus.

The approximately $9.5 million dollar project is in it's second phase of City Colleges of Chicago's continued investment in the West Side Learning Campus.

The new community center for teaching and learning will include educational training focused on healthcare, adult education, college success and create a meeting space for students and the community. It's expected to open as early as 2026. State Representative LaShawn Ford said the center invests in people.

"There's only one way we're gonna get people to support their families," he said. "There's only one way we're gonna get people to be contributing to society and taxpayers and that' s giving them opportunity to work."
