(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Earth Day is long over, but a west suburban woman is keeping its spirit alive while hoping drivers see her.

Laurie Branda was spotted picking up trash - and other stuff - on a sunny day near North and Thatcher, which is a very busy intersection where River Forest meets Elmwood Park.

"To me, it makes a difference and for all the dog walkers and if everybody would just do their part, I think we would It would be much better," she said.

"Many people honk and thank me."

Branda started trash collecting in the beginning of March and "was getting three or four hefty bags a day" of it. She said the efforts of young people on Earth Day inspires her.
