What will Illinois' minimum wage be in 2024? Hourly rates rise again in new year

(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Just like in 2023, the hourly minimum wage in Illinois will rise in 2024, as part of a three-year gradual increase that will eventually bring the statewide minimum wage to $15 per hour for non-tipped workers.

Come Jan. 1, 2024, the minimum wage will rise from $13 to $14 while tipped employees will see a 60 cent increase to $8.40.

The wage for workers under the age of 18 — who work less than 650 hours during the calendar year — will also rise from $10.50 per hour to $12 per hour. Workers under the age of 18 who work more than 650 hours in that time must be paid the regular wage.

Illinois’ recent minimum wage increases began in 2020 when the hourly minimum rose to $9.25 from $8.25, which had been the minimum wage since 2010.

The final boost will arrive on Jan. 1, 2025.
