(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Five women were shot and killed at a Lane Bryant store in Tinley Park 14 years ago today, and police say they hope new approaches may yield a break in the unsolved case.

Two new detectives were recently assigned to the investigation after the lead investigator retired and another detective was promoted.

Tinley Park Police Chief Matt Walsh said the newly assigned detectives will put "fresh eyes" on the case and may uncover something that was missed.

“We’re very hopeful that there’d be something that was overlooked, and we’re also hopeful that these new ways of processing evidence can help us out, too,” he said Wednesday. “There’s a lot of advances in DNA that could help us.”

The case has remained unsolved, despite about 7,500 tips and a description of the killer given to police by a woman who survived the attack.
